determined

As the moon crept up into the sky I suggested climbing this steep mound (and it’s much steeper than it appears). However, I was quickly discouraged from actually following through given the terrain and my shoes which begged to differ with being buried into mud and grass clippings. My girl was already pulling her brother up behind her when I called out “honey, I don’t think we should go up there!”. She turned and surveyed my predicament right down to my red suede shoes covered in grass. “Okay, you stay there then mama” and turned to scale it on her own – pushing her brother up and over a tangle of weeds and pulling him up when he was lost between the tall growth. As she scaled I waited for her to call me to save her from the tangle of weeds in which she was nearly lost. The terrain was very steep and at one point she had to stop Theo from rolling right back down.

And then when she finally stood at the top, she looked down at me like this, my determined little lady and I felt sure that this would not be the first time I’d see her conquer.

Haha, see his photo of the day… he was down in the thick grass directly behind her when I took this photo. I was fearful I’d have to scale up there and rescue him.

Gaa. Right there with you. My daughter Lauren is in this amazing place where she too looks at a challenge or an adventure and charges right at it! I tried, from the time she started crawling and would bobble feet away and then look back over her shoulder to see what I thought, to let her know yes, I’m here, but you are doing just fine my brave little explorer. Now, just last week at the fair…climbing wall? “I can climb higher than daddy’s head!” she said. Daddy is 6’1″. Rollercoaster? It was her favorite she said “Because it went really really fast and we screamed and screamed”. Super Slide? Just before they shut everything down she *had* to go one more time, and I stood at the bottom almost in tears at how excited and brave and confident she is at 3 1/2. I chuckle now at a conversation we had in the car about a month ago. L: Mama, I”m afraid of heights! M: Really? Since when? You’ve never been afraid of heights before. L: Yes, I am! M: Why are you afraid of heights? What are heights anyway? L: I don’t know. But they are scary!
